Gas Holder 2

Contractor: BJ Svets
Location: Stockholm
Year: 2022-2026

In Stockholm, extensive work is underway with the urban development project Norra Djurgårdsstaden, where the old gasworks in Hjorthagen are being revitalised. A central part of this effort is Gas Holder 2, which is now being transformed into the city’s new cultural venue.

Gas Holder 2 was designed by the renowned architect Ferdinand Boberg and was built as early as 1899. The building is one of two brick gas holders, both of which hold great cultural and historical value. The Gasworks area is now being developed into a vibrant district with services, retail, offices, and experiences.

The new cultural venue in Gas Holder 2 is planned to be completed by the turn of the year 2026/2027. To preserve the unique architecture and the vast interior volume, the stage is being constructed as a separate structure inside the gas holder – a solution that enables modern use without compromising the building’s historical character.

We at Pretec have supplied the special product TCB bolts for the project, used in the entire roof structure. The TCB bolt is a high-quality, pre-tensioned bolting solution that ensures strength and safety in demanding steel constructions. It is perfectly suited for projects such as bridges, stadium roofs, and other large-scale structures – just like Gas Holder 2.
