Sewage Tunnel E2

Contractor: YIT
Location: Stockholm
Year: 2020-2027

A 14-kilometre-long tunnel is being built under Stockholm to carry wastewater from the Bromma treatment plant to the Sickla facility, along a route passing beneath Hammarbybacken.

The work includes tunnel excavation, concrete works, pumping stations, and the installation of pipelines, where our client YIT is responsible for 7.7 kilometres of the project.

The tunnel runs partly beneath Lake Mälaren, from Smedslätten in Bromma to Eolshäll in Hägersten, at a depth of around 92 metres below the water level. Once completed, the wastewater will be treated at the Henriksdal treatment plant using new membrane technology, providing a higher purification level before being released into the Baltic Sea.

Pretec has supplied rock reinforcement in the form of ribbed steel and PC bolts, as well as Drillpipe PD55, for the project.
